Character Theme: Practice Kindness
Our acts of kindness can change the world around us. A friendly gesture, compliment, or kind deed makes a positive difference in the lives of other.
Why be kind? Consider these other reasons:
- Being kind feels good and creates happiness.
- Kindness helps us pay attention to the world around us and notice things that we can do to help others.
- Kindness softens and opens our hearts to others
- Kindness brightens our world. When those around us are happier, our world becomes a brighter, lighter place to live.
- Kindness helps people feel respected and more connected.
- Kindness makes people want to be around us.
- Kindness creates more kindness.
Kids learn kindness from the examples of others. For example, when adults are kind to friends and acquaintances, their kids will be more likely to be kind as well. During the spring we are going to be asking kids to do kind things to “fill the buckets” or lives of others. The fuller the buckets the happier we will be and the more kindness we can pay forward to others. Practice kindness everyday and fill a bucket.
No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted. -Aesop

TENACITY. The ability to be tenacious or persistent is essential for success. Often when asked what is more valuable- talent or tenacity, most people will say tenacity. Successful people stick to the task until it is completed. They donĂt give up easily.
We want to be able to help our children learn the skills to analyze a problem and then develop a system or strategy to attack a problem. This makes it less likely for them to give up too soon before it is solved. The more strategies and alternatives our children have to solve problems, the more successful they will be.
So remember practicing tenacity involves Sticking to it! Let's work together to help our children persevere and take tasks through to completion and remain focused. Let's look for ways to reach your goal when we get stuck and never give up. |

Students Meet Their Reading Challenge
Heritage students shattered the reading record of 221,000 minutes by reading 245,000 minutes during their PARP March Literacy challenge. As a result, they were treated to a Sumo Wrestling Match between Heritage principal Mr. Wolf and school counselor Mr. Glorioso. Click below for a look at the match.
Scouts Celebrate Earth Day by Taking Action
Some Heritage students, members of the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts along with the Buffalo Niagara River Keepers did a cleanup on cold and rainy Saturday at Ellicott Creek Park. Together over 73 volunteers collected 55 bags of garbage which weighted 342 lbs. Also collected things like refrigerator, medal cans, old bicycle, shovels, tires and a fishing pole that wasn't included in the weight.  We are so proud of the Scouts. The girls that participated from Brownie Troop 31790 included Tianna
Ferguson, Michelle Goodman, Cassidy Naylor, Adriana Szurley, Julia Vicario and Aviana Wilson (pictured below). The Cub Scout Pack 455 from Heritage Heights were Matthew Goodman and Jeremy Vicario.
Children's Author Comes to Heritage Author and Storyteller Cynthia DeFelice came to Heritage on Friday, on March 30th. She shared some of her stories and discussed how she became an author. Click here for more information about her and to view other pictures from her visit.
Reading Log
Each day students in grades 2-5 should be bring home a "just right" book to read as well as their reading log. Parents are strongly encouraged to monitor their child's reading by inspecting this reading log and signing that their child's is reading at home each night. We appreciate our parents support of this home practice.

Sweet Home Computer Use Information
Computers are a wonderful resource and tool in the classroom. We believe it is essential that students utilize technology as they develop needed 21st century skills. Heritage students have various degrees of access to computers and the Internet while in school. With this priviledge comes responsibility. All students must follow our districts acceptable use guidelines. Failure to follow these guideline will result in consequences with may include loss of computer access, disciplinary action, or even prosecution in accordance with law, regulation and/or the District Code of Conduct. All families should read and be knowledgeable of our Acceptable Use Policy. When a student uses a computer at school, they accept the responsibilities that come with this use. All students will be allowed access to computers unless parents deny their child access by submitting this request in writing to the building principal.
